Sam was rescued by his father, who rented a helicopter to find him after he was trapped in a crashed car for 30 hours. After the paramedics arrived, he was quickly taken to the hospital and saw how critically wounded he was. One of the injuries that he sustained was a bone that sticks out of his leg, which is one of the reasons that the car accident must have been severe.
